Georgia Confirms 3 New Measles Cases, Pushing 2026 Total to 5 After Overseas Travel

Three unvaccinated metro Atlanta family members tested positive for measles after returning from international travel, lifting Georgia’s 2026 case count to five.
Georgia’s health department said the family was not infectious while traveling and developed symptoms only after returning; officials are now tracing close contacts in the state.
Two earlier Georgia cases involved a baby in metro Atlanta and a coastal Georgia resident, according to the report.
Nationwide, the CDC had recorded nearly 2,000 measles cases by May 21, with South Carolina, Utah, Texas and Florida among the hardest-hit states.
Health officials said MMR vaccination remains the best protection, warning that kindergarten coverage has slipped to 92.5%, below the roughly 95% level needed to curb spread.
