Surveillance from a San Ysidro parking garage on Sunday appears to show 40-year-old Ruben Fregoso holding 5-year-old Daleza’s hand and carrying a suitcase near the U.S.-Mexico border.
A 2019 Land Rover Discovery tied to Fregoso was found at the San Ysidro Point of Entry, but California Highway Patrol said neither Fregoso nor the girl was located.
Police say Fregoso abducted Daleza after her mother was killed inside the family’s West Adams home; NBC Los Angeles confirmed through two sources that the body found there was the child’s mother.
Daleza was last seen around 4 a.m. Sunday near Alsace Avenue and Ferndale Street in Los Angeles, and authorities describe her as 3 feet tall, about 45 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
About 100 people gathered at a Wednesday vigil outside the home, where relatives and neighbors mourned the mother and called for Daleza’s safe return.
