Federal prosecutors on Thursday added bribery in sporting contests and honest-services wire fraud conspiracy charges against Terry Rozier in a superseding Brooklyn indictment tied to a March 2023 NBA betting scheme.
Prosecutors say Rozier agreed to leave a Charlotte Hornets game early by citing a lower-leg injury, helping gamblers place more than $250,000 in under bets on his stats.
A rebound prop spoiled part of the scheme, the indictment says, leading Rozier and co-conspirators to cut the alleged bribe from $100,000 to about $70,000 after the game.
The filing came within hours of bettor-influencer Marves Fairley's guilty plea; Fairley admitted paying Rozier's longtime friend $100,000 for inside information that Rozier would exit early.
Rozier, 32, has pleaded not guilty to earlier wire-fraud and money-laundering conspiracy counts, is free on $3 million bond, and argues the government's fraud theory conflicts with a recent Supreme Court ruling.
