Samsung’s Galaxy A57 5G went on sale April 10 at $549, adding a slimmer 6.9mm, 179g design, Exynos 1680 chip and upgraded IP68 water resistance to its mid-range A5x line.
Performance gains are modest for most users: CPU and GPU scores improve about 12%-15%, while the NPU jumps 42% to power new on-device AI tools such as Live Transcription, AI Text Extraction and Auto Trim.
The biggest drawback is price. The older Galaxy A56, launched at $499, now sells for about $385 at major retailers, leaving a potential $165 gap despite near-identical 6.7-inch 120Hz displays and largely unchanged cameras.
That pricing puts the A57 above key mid-range rivals including Google’s $499 Pixel 10a and Nothing’s $499 Phone 4a Pro, while discounted Galaxy S25 FE models can also be found near $500.
The result is a clearer split in Samsung’s lineup: the A57 is the better phone for buyers who want IP68 protection and the latest AI features, but the discounted A56 offers stronger value in 2026.
As phone costs rise, does the A57's AI mark a must-have evolution or just an expensive gimmick?
Is Samsung's new mid-range phone already outmatched by its own heavily discounted older model?
