Basildon Crown Court jailed Hollie Dance for four years and her son Thomas Summers for five after jurors convicted them over a 13-mile chase that ended with a driver being rammed into a tree.
The attack began in Westcliff-on-Sea on 10 October 2022 after Dance's daughter falsely accused the victim of hitting her with a bottle, prompting what prosecutors called a revenge pursuit to Basildon.
A frantic police call captured the victim fleeing along the A127 before Summers' rented Toyota hit his car, leaving the chef with fractures to his shoulder and foot.
Dance had already admitted dangerous driving and was also convicted of possessing incapacitant spray; Summers had pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was convicted of affray.
Recorder Peter Clark said Archie Battersbee's death and the family's grief were "desperately sad" but ruled the pursuit was a determined, highly dangerous attack, banning both from driving for two years after release.
Why was Archie Battersbee's mother, an online safety advocate, jailed for a brutal roadside revenge attack?
Will Hollie Dance's violent crime conviction undermine the campaign for stricter social media laws she once championed?
