South Africa Producer Inflation Jumps to 4.8% in April as Monthly PPI Rises 3.0%

South Africa’s producer inflation accelerated to 4.8% year on year in April, more than doubling from 2.3% in March, Statistics South Africa said.
The Producer Price Index also climbed 3.0% month on month in April, pointing to a sharp pickup in pipeline price pressures.
April’s annual reading was the highest in two years, while the monthly increase marked a 16-year high in related reporting.
Chemicals, petroleum and plastics were among the sectors hit hardest as higher energy and fertilizer costs and supply disruptions fed through producer prices.
