Neil Hopper Struck Off Medical Register After 5 Convictions and 32-Month Jail Term

  • A Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service panel erased Neil Hopper, 50, from the medical register on Friday, ruling his fitness to practise was impaired by criminal convictions.
  • The panel said Hopper posed an "extremely high" risk to public protection, citing insurance fraud, possession of extreme pornography and what the GMC called a lack of insight or remedial behaviour.
  • Three of his five convictions stemmed from buying videos of genital mutilation from Marius Gustavson, who was jailed for 22 years in 2024 for mutilating paying customers and streaming it online.
  • Hopper, speaking by phone from prison without representation, said he was ashamed, had worked with psychiatrists and psychologists, and regretted failing to show enough remorse or insight.
  • The striking-off follows Hopper's September sentence of 32 months in prison and a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, ending his ability to practise medicine in the UK.
