Vivek Ramaswamy said Ohio would fight Medicaid fraud by aligning federal-state incentives, cutting bureaucracy and stepping up prosecutions if he wins the governor’s race.
He argued the crackdown is needed because improper state and federal payments totaled about $1.1 trillion over 10 years, while Ohio Medicaid spending rose to $47 billion from $27 billion even as enrollment increased by only 100,000.
The proposal lands as Vice President JD Vance’s White House Anti-Fraud Task Force says it has already identified $1.4 billion in home health and hospice waste and is working with states including Ohio.
Ramaswamy is trying to make fraud a central 2026 campaign issue against Democrat Amy Acton ahead of the Nov. 3 election, in a state where no Democrat has won the governorship since 2006.
