An eight-count U.S. indictment accuses Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, 32, of serving as a Kata’ib Hizballah and IRGC operative tied to nearly 20 attacks and attempted attacks in Europe and the United States.
Prosecutors say he helped plan March-April 2026 attacks in the U.S., including against a New York synagogue, and on April 30 sought someone in America who could "attack" by burning or killing.
Al-Saadi was detained abroad on May 1 and transferred to FBI custody on May 14; authorities say his phone and social media linked him to real-time coordination, filming and propaganda for attacks claimed by Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya.
The Justice Department says that group was a front for Kata’ib Hizballah and allied Iranian-backed organizations, and that Al-Saadi described himself after arrest as a leader in the broader "resistance" network.
The charges include attempted terrorism transcending national boundaries and conspiracy to bomb a public place, with the most serious counts carrying potential life sentences.
