Maine GOP's Trey Stewart Warns Democrats on Graham Platner as Collins Seeks 6th Senate Term

Trey Stewart said Democrats backing Graham Platner are "selling their soul" and will face a voter backlash in Maine, arguing the progressive candidate is too extreme to unseat Sen. Susan Collins in November.
Platner has come under renewed scrutiny over deleted posts in which he called himself a communist and socialist, used alleged homophobic slurs, disparaged the military, and mocked a Purple Heart veteran shot four times in Afghanistan.
Stewart said Platner still has not adequately apologized, calling a Senate seat "completely out of grasp" for him even as the Democrat became the presumptive nominee after Gov. Janet Mills ended her campaign last month.
Collins, a five-term incumbent seeking a 6th term, trailed in some 2020 polls before defeating Sara Gideon, and Stewart argued Maine's middle-of-the-road electorate again will reject a far-left challenger.
