Tuesday strikes in Khan Yunis and Gaza killed Ihab Khrizim, accused of channeling millions of dollars to Hamas’s military wing, and Mohammed Odeh, a newly elevated commander tied to the Oct. 7, 2023 attack.
The IDF said Khrizim kept moving money despite the ceasefire, enabling imminent plots against Israeli troops in Gaza and civilians in Israel, and called his death a setback to Hamas’s efforts to rebuild.
Odeh had led Hamas’s intelligence unit during the Oct. 7 assault and was appointed about a week ago to replace Izz al-Din al-Haddad, who was killed in an Israeli strike on May 15.
Israel also said it killed weapons-maker Mohammed al-Habash; Odeh died with his wife and two children, and mourners at a Gaza City funeral on Wednesday fired gunshots as Eid al-Adha approached.
History shows militant groups survive losing leaders. Can Israel’s current strategy break the cycle of violence in Gaza?
With a peace plan in place, are targeted killings a path to security or a prelude to the next war?
