Airbus Signs AI Deal With Mistral, Buying Full Product Suite for Aerospace and Defence

Airbus said it will license Mistral AI’s full product suite, letting it deploy models on-premises, in trusted clouds or other environments across commercial aircraft, helicopters, defence and space operations.
The partnership is aimed at embedding “ethical and trustworthy” AI from design and engineering to onboard capabilities, while meeting strict security and sovereignty requirements for confidential and military uses.
Initial projects already identified include automating technical-document production, speeding design and certification work through AI simulations, and developing edge AI for aircraft and spacecraft such as automatic object recognition.
Airbus also secured access to Mistral’s researchers and influence over the product roadmap, allowing bespoke tools for aerospace challenges including cyber investigations, coding assistance, flight safety and situational awareness.
