Axios reporter Alex Thompson said multiple Democrats and former officials told him they do not believe her account, arguing her public behavior after the debate did not match someone fearing a medical emergency.
Thompson noted Jill Biden appeared with her husband at a post-debate rally and continued campaign events the next day, while he said there was no evidence of any significant medical exam afterward.
The backlash also reflects a wider grievance that Biden’s inner circle minimized signs of decline already seen months earlier, including in his interview with former special counsel Robert Hur.
