Michigan Senate candidate Mallory McMorrow said at Thursday’s debate that antisemitism exists in the Democratic Party, citing an incident at the Democratic convention.
At the DNC, she said, an attendee shouted an antisemitic slur at her Jewish husband while he was walking with their 5-year-old daughter, calling the episode terrifying.
McMorrow used the exchange to draw a line between criticizing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and targeting Jewish Americans, saying party rhetoric must stay focused on the Israeli state.
Positioning herself between rival Abdul El-Sayed and Rep. Haley Stevens in a tight three-way primary, she also said she would have backed Bernie Sanders’ resolution to block a recent U.S. arms sale to Israel.
