JD Vance said Washington is close to an Iran nuclear agreement but "not there yet," with disputes still centered on Tehran’s enriched uranium stockpile and enrichment terms.
A draft memorandum of understanding has not been finalized or confirmed, Vance said, adding negotiators are still going back and forth over language and he cannot guarantee President Donald Trump will sign it.
The vice president said the US still believes it could substantially set back Iran’s nuclear program, underscoring pressure behind the talks even as diplomacy continues.
Trump has also circulated a draft peace agreement for the Iran war to allies including Israel as both sides try to stop ceasefire breaches from escalating and derailing a broader deal.
