Vermont House Speaker Jill Krowinski Won't Seek Reelection After 14 Years in Legislature

Jill Krowinski said Thursday she will step down as Vermont House speaker and not run again in the fall, ending a legislative career that began in 2012.
Since taking the speakership in 2021, the Burlington Democrat has led the House through major fights over a 2023 childcare bill, the Clean Heat Standard and two years of education finance reform efforts.
Her exit follows a tougher stretch for House Democrats, who lost their supermajority last year under her leadership.
Krowinski joins other prominent Vermont lawmakers heading out, including Senate President Phil Baruth, adding to turnover in what is shaping up as a dynamic election season.
