University Gastroenterology Launches 3 GLP-1 Studies for IBD, IBS and Fatty Liver

Three University Gastroenterology studies are recruiting patients to test GLP-1 drugs for inflammatory bowel disease, IBS and fatty liver, expanding the obesity-diabetes drug class into gastrointestinal care.
Dr. Eric Newton said the approach targets gut inflammation when existing treatments often fall short, with researchers hoping GLP-1s can ease Crohn's, colitis and IBS symptoms.
Fatty liver patients with advanced scarring short of cirrhosis will receive Zepbound or experimental retatrutide, which researchers believe could drive weight loss, lower liver enzymes and possibly reverse damage.
Eli Lilly is funding all three trials: the IBD study compares Zepbound with a biologic, the IBS study uses an experimental GLP-1, and participants receive the drugs and related scans and lab work at no cost.
Are GLP-1s evolving from weight loss drugs into a universal treatment for the body's most persistent inflammatory diseases?
As Eli Lilly unveils new Retatrutide data today, will it confirm its promise for liver disease or reveal unexpected dangers?
