Two autonomous electric semitrucks will begin moving freight this summer between EASE Logistics warehouses in Marysville, Ohio, marking a proof-of-concept service on both company property and local public roads.
The pilot uses Einride's cab-less SAE Level 4 trucks, which drive under approved conditions without anyone onboard while remote operators monitor them off-site and can intervene if needed.
Ohio is using the deployment to extend its DriveOhio Truck Automation Corridor Project with Indiana, collecting data on safety, freight efficiency, warehousing and distribution in day-to-day operations.
EASE said the test is its third autonomous trucking deployment with DriveOhio, underscoring a shift from controlled trials toward regular short-haul logistics work as safety and public trust remain key hurdles.
Beyond this Ohio pilot, can autonomous trucking overcome the massive industry barriers to widespread AI adoption and actually deliver on its promises?
Driverless trucks promise efficiency, but what is the hidden cost of automating one of America’s most common jobs?
With other AVs failing in emergencies, how will these cab-less trucks prove they are truly safe for our public roads?
