May 30 marks the end of MARTA’s extended grace period, with riders at stations using the new fare gates required to tap a payment method to enter.
Additional ticket-vending machines installed across the system let MARTA close gates it had kept open beyond the original May 2 deadline because the rollout was behind schedule.
New gates accept bank cards, mobile wallets, virtual Breeze cards, and physical Breeze cards or tickets, but the Breeze Mobile app itself cannot be used to pay.
Old Breeze cards and the old Breeze Mobile 2.0 app no longer work on the new system; riders can transfer balances online and buy new cards at machines, Ride Stores, or online.
Stations where the new Breeze system is still under construction will keep old gates or nearby emergency doors open so customers can still access the rail network.
