NordVPN has rebuilt its app from a standalone VPN into an all-in-one security product organized around three pillars: connect, protect and monitor.
April 2026 threat data drove the shift: NordVPN said its protection tools blocked 4.8 million threats, including more than 3 million malware events, as phishing, scams and identity theft outgrow file-based attacks.
The revamped app bundles next-generation antivirus with dark web monitoring, scam and phishing protection, breach alerts and browser safeguards, while NordVPN says it collects only the minimum data needed to judge threats.
Pricing still starts at $3.09 a month for Basic, but the antivirus suite is limited to Complete or higher, which starts at $3.99 a month on a two-year plan.
The move fits a broader VPN-industry push into wider security services, with rivals such as Surfshark, ExpressVPN and Proton also expanding beyond encrypted connections.
With mixed reviews on its malware protection, can users truly trust NordVPN's suite to keep them safe from advanced threats?
As VPNs become all-in-one platforms, are users getting better value or just paying for features they don't need?
