  • Southampton Crown Court found 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa guilty of murdering University of Southampton student Henry Nowak after stabbing the 18-year-old to death on 3 December.
  • Jurors rejected Digwa's self-defence claim that Nowak used a racist slur, punched him and knocked off his turban before the attack with the 21cm ceremonial blade.
  • Prosecutors said Nowak was stabbed five times, including wounds to his legs, face and a fatal chest injury, then tried to flee over a fence while leaving a trail of blood.
  • The jury also convicted Digwa of carrying a knife in public, and found his mother, 53-year-old Kiran Kaur, guilty of assisting an offender after the weapon was taken to the family home.
  • Digwa is due to be sentenced on Monday, while Kaur will be sentenced on 17 July.
