Obsidian support told PS4 and Xbox One owners they now must buy The Outer Worlds Expansion Pass—priced at £12.99/$14.99—to get the Spacer’s Choice Edition upgrade.
The reversal came after the studio had said anyone with at least the base edition in their digital library before May 27, 2026 would receive the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version free.
Support blamed "unforeseen platform limitations" on PlayStation and Xbox, but the change appears to have arrived without a public correction when the promised upgrade date passed.
Players who bought the game ahead of May 27 expecting a free upgrade have flooded social media and Reddit with complaints, accusing Obsidian of misleading messaging.
