Clint Dempsey said the United States' 26-man roster can make a deep 2026 World Cup run on home soil, arguing the chance to represent the country carries extra weight this summer.
Dempsey framed that belief through his own sacrifices, citing a broken nose during the 2014 win over Ghana and two heart procedures as examples of what players endure to wear the U.S. jersey.
The three-time World Cup veteran said patriotism still defines him, adding he would want to be buried in a U.S. shirt rather than any club jersey.
Away from the national team, Dempsey is again mentoring Abbott's Dream Team with Real Madrid, a program for U.S. players aged 18-19 that includes coaching, health support and training in Madrid.
Tryouts have already been held in Miami, Washington and Houston, with Kansas City on June 2, Los Angeles on June 4 and Chicago on June 9 still to come.

Will Pochettino's intense coaching style forge a USMNT contender or cause the squad to crumble under home pressure?
