Sharod Grafton Charged After Shooting Deputy 3 Times at Indiana Hospital

Sharod Grafton, 22, was charged with attempted murder, battery on a public safety official and auto theft after authorities said he shot Deputy Jon Samuelson three times in a Michigan City hospital ER.
Court records say Samuelson had stopped to help Grafton’s disabled Chrysler 300 on Friday morning and drove him to Franciscan Health Michigan City, where the deputy learned the car had been reported stolen just before the gunfire.
Chicago police told investigators Grafton had taken the car from his mother at gunpoint hours earlier after barricading himself inside her home with his 1-year-old and 10-year-old sisters.
Samuelson remained hospitalized Tuesday with shoulder, calf and severe head-and-neck wounds, while Grafton was caught in woods near the hospital after fleeing and moved to Porter County Jail.
