Q: She married an old flame just four months after the finale. Was her on-screen TV romance ever truly real?

Probably not as a serious long-term romance, though it appears the connection itself was real within the show. The strongest evidence is Marissa George’s own account. She has said she told DeMari Davis very early in filming that she was not looking to leave *Perfect Match* in a relationship and that he understood. She also said castmates knew about that understanding. That suggests their pairing was genuine as a shared experience in the villa, but not built with the expectation of becoming a real-world couple. What played out on screen still seems to have involved real attraction and real conflict. Marissa and DeMari clicked quickly, won early challenges, and had visible emotional highs and lows. But their relationship was also marked by jealousy, communication problems, outside connections, and DeMari’s unresolved history with ex Bri Balram. By the end, both described the relationship as a “roller coaster,” and after filming wrapped in November 2025 they agreed to remain friends. Her quick marriage to Dre Johnson in March 2026 does not by itself prove the TV romance was fake. It does, however, reinforce that DeMari was not her intended endgame. Marissa says Dre was a rekindled love from more than a decade ago and that they had repeatedly found their way back to each other. So the fairest reading is that the on-screen romance was real as a temporary reality-TV connection, but not real in the deeper sense of a committed relationship meant to last after filming.

March brought a private Savannah wedding for Marissa George, 34, and D. Johnson, 39, after the couple quietly got engaged in February.
George said they first dated in 2013 and kept reconnecting over 13 years, finally deciding after Perfect Match wrapped in November 2025 that the long-distance relationship was worth pursuing.
Her season-four storyline ended with DeMari Davis on the May 27 finale, but George said they split offscreen and chose to remain friends after briefly speaking post-show.
The marriage adds another reality-TV turn for George, who had previously ended an engagement to Ramses Prashad during Love Is Blind season seven and now plans a larger celebration next year.
