Police charged Edward McGill, 59, with attempted murder after video showed him striking Raymond Jett, 60, in the head and upper body with a metal bat in a Myrtle Beach Food Lion parking lot.
The fight began around 5:45 p.m. Sunday after Jett drove from North Carolina with his three children, left a note on McGill’s windshield, confronted him outside the store and threw the first punch, according to police.
Video and the incident report say McGill ran to his vehicle for the bat, chased Jett, kept hitting him after he fell, and re-engaged until a bystander took the bat and officers arrived.
Jett was arrested the next day on third-degree assault and battery and three counts of unlawful neglect of a child; McGill remained jailed Tuesday at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on bond above $300,000.
