CSB Opens Probe Into Longview Paper Mill Implosion After 2 Deaths and 9 Missing

Federal investigators from the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board are heading to Longview on Wednesday after opening a probe into Tuesday’s deadly implosion at Nippon Dynawave Packaging.
A large vat of white liquor imploded around 7:15 a.m. May 26, causing severe injuries, chemical burns and extensive damage at the paper mill.
Two workers have been confirmed dead, seven employees remain hospitalized and nine people are still missing, according to officials’ latest Wednesday update.
One firefighter was also injured during the response and later released, while the CSB said its investigation will focus on how the accident happened and how to prevent a repeat.
