Universal, a Russian-flagged tanker carrying more than 240,000 barrels of diesel, has dropped Cuba as its destination and is now sailing southeast after weeks of uncertainty.
Kpler data showed the vessel was still listed for Cuba as recently as Tuesday, but that was changed to “for order,” indicating it is awaiting new instructions.
The tanker had spent weeks idling in the Sargasso Sea after halting its approach to Cuba, fueling doubts that the delayed cargo would ever reach the island.
