More than 24 hours of silence from Katherine Short led Martin Short to ask a friend to check on her on Feb. 23, according to an autopsy report released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
Multiple notes posted on her door prompted the friend to call 911; police forced entry into her bedroom and found Katherine dead in bed with a Glock 19 9mm pistol under her chest.
The medical examiner ruled the 42-year-old social worker's death a suicide, citing self-inflicted wounds; the report also said benzodiazepines were in her system.
Her autopsy noted a 2017 suicide attempt involving pills and a history of depression and other mental health illnesses, adding detail to Martin Short's recent comments comparing mental illness with cancer.
