Boeing said it has passed the FAA's capstone review for a 47-a-month 737 Max production rate and has begun running the line at that level.
Ortberg said output is currently about 42 jets a month and should stabilize at 47 within the next couple of months after the ramp-up.
The CEO said Boeing is highly confident it can sustain 47, but not yet the 57-a-month pace it once reached while maintaining current safety and quality processes.
A further increase to 52 jets a month would likely take at least six months after the 47 rate takes effect in July or August, with Boeing ultimately targeting 63 if demand supports it.
