Lincoln County Adds 10 Jobs in April as Unemployment Eases to 5.8%

Lincoln County’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment rose by 10 in April to 18,510, while its unemployment rate edged down to 5.8% from 5.9% in March.
250 private-sector jobs were added and government employment was unchanged, but seasonal expectations had already pointed to a 240-job increase, leaving the adjusted gain minimal.
Leisure and hospitality led April hiring with 160 jobs added, and private education and health services gained 30.
Compared with a year earlier, total nonfarm employment was down 200 jobs, with trade, transportation and utilities losing 70 and federal government shedding 40.
19,644 county residents were employed and 1,087 unemployed in April; the jobless rate still topped Oregon’s 5.2% and the U.S. rate of 4.3%.
