  • Pedro Ramirez, a 17-year-old Tilden High junior, was struck while walking to school and died at 8:18 a.m. at Comer Children’s Hospital after gunmen opened fire on a minivan in Back of the Yards.
  • Police said a stolen black Jeep Cherokee carrying four masked assailants stopped behind a red minivan near 51st Street, and at least two attackers got out with a long gun and fired dozens of rifle rounds.
  • Two men in the minivan, ages 55 and 61, were also shot but drove away and called 911; one has been released from Stroger Hospital and the other was reported stable.
  • A witness gave police a description of the Jeep, leading to a chase and one arrest near 44th Street and Wolcott Avenue; three others fled on foot, and officers recovered a pistol and a rifle.
  • Ramirez’s mother said her son was an honor-roll student, soccer and volleyball player, and aspiring engineer; no charges had been filed by Wednesday morning.
