SpaceX's $75 Billion IPO Stirs Liquidity Fears as AI Megacaps Near Half of S&P 500

$75 billion of demand for SpaceX's expected June 12 IPO could force investors to sell existing holdings because available cash is scarce, with Bank of America private-wealth clients holding just 9.9% in cash.
Record equity exposure is amplifying that risk: those same clients have 66% of portfolios in stocks, leaving growth shares and other liquid positions vulnerable to funding-related outflows.
Nasdaq 100 and other index additions could deepen the disruption, as MSCI says funds would need to trim consumer discretionary, healthcare and even major tech names including Nvidia, Apple and Microsoft.
That reshuffle would also intensify concentration, with AI megacaps potentially approaching half of the S&P 500 and leaving the market more exposed to a single earnings miss or similar shock.
Bob Doll said any liquidity hit should be short-lived and valuations remain reasonable, while UBS has urged clients seeking less concentration risk to add exposure outside U.S. megacaps.
With investor cash at record lows, will the SpaceX IPO trigger a forced sell-off across the entire stock market?

SpaceX’s $1.75 Trillion IPO: Reshaping Markets, Indexes, and Investor Strategies
Overview
SpaceX is preparing for an imminent IPO that is expected to be a landmark event in financial markets, following a successful pre-IPO roadshow. The offering is anticipated to be of unprecedented scale, reflecting strong market appetite for innovative tech companies, as seen with Cerebras’s record-setting debut earlier this year. SpaceX’s complex corporate structure, shaped by Elon Musk’s mergers and acquisitions—including the integration of social media platform X and AI company xAI—adds both opportunity and financial complexity. This IPO could set the stage for other major AI firms to go public, highlighting a new era of transformative technology offerings.
