Rospotrebnadzor said Russia has stepped up sanitary and quarantine screening at border checkpoints for travelers arriving from Ebola-affected African countries, while reporting no imported cases since the outbreak began in mid-May.
Nearly 1,000 Ebola cases have now been confirmed in Africa, according to the African Union’s health agency, after the WHO earlier this month declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern.
The outbreak has centered on the Democratic Republic of Congo and spread to neighboring Uganda, where hundreds of suspected cases and dozens of deaths were reported, including 2 deaths in Uganda.
Russian teams have also been sent to Uganda, the DRC and Burundi to provide testing systems and other advisory and practical support, as Moscow says the current risk of spread inside Russia is zero.
