Travis Kelce said Wednesday he has bought a minority stake in the Cleveland Guardians, adding MLB owner to a business portfolio that already spans Formula 1, consumer brands and media.
Cleveland ties drove the deal: Kelce grew up a die-hard fan in Cleveland Heights, called baseball his first realistic pro path, and said lead minority owner David Blitzer brought him into the group.
Kelce, 36, was a standout local baseball player before football took over, hitting .588 with six home runs as a high school senior and later playing summer ball as an outfielder.
The investment puts him among active athletes with MLB equity stakes, alongside Patrick Mahomes, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Cade Cunningham.
The Guardians are valued at about $1.7 billion, up from $1 billion in 2022, and Blitzer's pathway to majority ownership could be exercised as early as after the 2027 season.
