Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed said his college-campus events with Hasan Piker reflect shared anti-war and economic views, not blanket support for the streamer’s past comments.
Pressed on Piker’s “America deserved 9/11” remark and other controversies, El-Sayed called the interview a “gotcha game” and said appearing with Piker did not mean he endorsed everything he has said.
El-Sayed used the exchange to attack Trump’s immigration enforcement and the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, describing ICE as a politicized force and citing an $82.89 Memorial Day gas fill-up as fallout from a war “we never should have been fighting.”
The clash comes as El-Sayed campaigns for Michigan’s 2026 Democratic Senate nomination ahead of the Aug. 4 primary against Reps. Mallory McMorrow and Haley Stevens.
