Joseph Simpkins, 37, has been charged with manslaughter over the fatal shooting of Charles Kinston, whose body was found in a Bretby field on 29 January 2024.
Derbyshire Police also charged Simpkins with possessing firearm ammunition without a certificate and possessing prohibited ammunition, linking the case to alleged weapons offences.
Simpkins, of Brizlincote Lane in Bretby, was released on bail and is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on 15 June.
Kinston, 23, was remembered by the Leicestershire Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs as a "kind and generous character" and a Netherseal YFC member for more than 12 years.
