Abner Uribe apologized to the Brewers after his triple crotch-chop celebration ended the eighth inning of Milwaukee’s 6-0 win over St. Louis, saying the gesture was unacceptable.
Pat Murphy said he was embarrassed and told Uribe the act would not be tolerated, while the Brewers manager said the club had already addressed the matter and would wait on any league response.
Uribe said his outburst followed what he described as pregame signs from Cardinals manager Oli Marmol suggesting St. Louis would throw at William Contreras and Christian Yelich; the Cardinals strongly denied that accusation.
The inning had already turned tense after Uribe’s first ABS challenge of the year for a Brewers pitcher and a verbal exchange with Ivan Herrera, who said a 2-0 fastball up near his head was disrespectful.
Uribe, suspended 4 games after a 2024 brawl with Jose Siri, said there is no place for that behavior on a team trying to repeat its recent success as the series concludes May 27.
