$195 million in booked and spent TV, cable and radio ads has made Tom Steyer's California governor bid the country's costliest political ad campaign this year, with the total still rising ahead of the June 2 primary.
That barrage has given Steyer a late publicity edge in a crowded top-two race, where he is contending with Xavier Becerra and Republican Steve Hilton but has not pulled clearly ahead.
