Digital Foundry found 007 First Light runs best on PS5 Pro, where a single mode matches the base PS5’s Quality settings but at 60fps with noticeably cleaner image quality.
Base PS5 hits 60fps in Performance Mode and 30fps in Quality Mode, but does so from low internal resolutions—720p and 1080p respectively—leaving FSR 3.1.5 to produce flicker and reconstruction artifacts.
Those image issues were most visible in foliage and motion, and Push Square’s own base-PS5 review-in-progress also noted fuzzy visuals and rare but noticeable frame-rate drops.
On PS5 Pro, Sony’s updated PSSR 2 upscaling was credited for the sharper presentation; aside from one crash in hands-on testing, the game reportedly ran smoothly and looked fantastic.
The comparison adds to signs that recent PSSR 2 updates are making PS5 Pro a more meaningful visual upgrade over the standard console, despite its higher price.
Is the PS5 Pro’s $900 price creating a second-class experience for base console owners?
Will AI upscaling like PSSR 2 make native 4K resolution irrelevant for future console gaming?
