Google said Cross-device Payment Verification will let desktop shoppers approve Google Pay purchases on an Android phone with a fingerprint, face scan or PIN, replacing SMS codes and bank-page redirects.
The feature works through a secure phone push notification or a QR code shown on the desktop screen, turning the Android handset into the checkout security key; Google did not give a consumer launch date.
The Wallet redesign is now rolling out broadly across Android, with a new home screen for cards and passes, larger live-updating boarding passes, and a searchable hub that includes transaction history.
Google also expanded digital ID verification to apps including Uber and TurboTax, added contactless loyalty sign-ups, and previewed digital receipts for retailers.
NIST has long warned that SMS one-time codes are vulnerable to SIM-swap attacks, giving Google a potential edge over Apple Pay and Samsung Wallet, which still rely more heavily on older web-checkout verification flows.
