A newly released video has Jim Wright and his wife, Sherri, publicly detail for the first time the Jan. 9, 2017 crash that left her permanently paralyzed about a mile from their Texas home.
Sherri said she woke trapped in the wreckage after dropping their youngest son at school, while Jim said he rushed to the scene and later learned the injuries had changed nearly every part of their family’s life.
The couple described years of in-home care, lost independence and public stigma, with Sherri saying people often address whoever is beside her rather than speaking to her directly.
Jim and Sherri linked the crash to illegal immigration and border security, saying families harmed by people crossing the border illegally should not have had to endure such consequences.
They said family support helped them move forward, while Jim argued the broader issue also involves cartel activity in Mexico and the costs Texas families bear.
