June will mark the start of Gyeonggi Job Foundation’s employment-linked internship, placing local youth at more than 20 small and medium-sized companies across the province.
Three months of on-site work and mentoring are designed to turn practical experience into hiring opportunities through a partnership among the foundation, companies, universities and local governments.
1.6 million won a month in wage subsidies, plus mentor allowances, will go to participating companies, while eight universities including Hankyung National University helped identify firms and recruit interns.
The program targets first-job difficulties for young people, with the foundation saying AI-driven labor-market disruption is raising barriers and deepening manufacturing-sector skill mismatches.
