More than 6 million X users saw Sharrell Shaw’s Memorial Day request for a fresh photo of her husband’s grave at Arlington after she said she could not travel from Arkansas this year.
Hundreds of people responded with photos, flowers, prayers and messages for Army Staff Sgt. Alan Shaw, who was killed in Iraq on Feb. 9, 2007 and is buried in Section 60.
Tulsi Gabbard and Pete Hegseth were among those who visited the grave Monday, with Gabbard posting a photo of herself placing a challenge coin on the headstone.
Shaw said the response eased a Gold Star family’s fear that a fallen service member will be forgotten over time, calling it proof that her husband’s sacrifice is still remembered.
