Tuesday’s protest outside Gracie Mansion will target Mayor Zohran Mamdani over what organizers call extremist Islamist politics, with Muslim, Jewish and Christian groups planning to demonstrate together.
Anila Ali of the American Muslim & Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council said Mamdani’s support for BDS, his comments on Israel and his past defense of “globalize the intifada” have alienated moderate Muslims and damaged Muslim-Jewish relations.
Mamdani is also drawing fire from the opposite flank: pro-Palestinian activist Nerdeen Kiswani said he has not gone far enough after taking office and criticized him for saying Israel has a right to exist.
The split leaves New York’s first Muslim mayor as a flashpoint in a wider U.S. fight over anti-Israel activism, Islamist politics and far-left protest coalitions; his office did not immediately respond.
