Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry on Tuesday created a bipartisan MFP Pay Raise Task Force to build permanent teacher raises into the state funding formula.
The group will conduct a top-to-bottom review of the Minimum Foundation Program and propose a long-term funding structure that Landry said would avoid tax increases.
Legislative leaders, BESE representatives, educators, school systems and business leaders will serve on the task force, which Landry cast as a replacement for years of temporary stipends.
The move follows voters' rejection of Amendment 3 two weeks ago; the measure would have dissolved public education trust funds to finance permanent raises and drew backlash from educators seeking traditionally funded pay increases.
