NordVPN’s threat team says GTA 6 pre-order hype is already driving a broad wave of malware, phishing and scam campaigns even though Rockstar has not opened official pre-orders.
One sample detected on May 17, 2026 posed as a legitimate game installer, then quietly launched a hidden malicious file disguised as an NVIDIA graphics driver component.
Researchers also catalogued fake sites offering free GTA 6 codes, beta keys, trailer access and bogus pre-orders, along with phishing pages seeking Rockstar Social Club credentials.
GTA 6 is slated for release on November 19, and NordVPN said the game’s unusually intense anticipation is giving criminals an opening as fans chase early access that does not exist.
