24-year-old Meta engineer Raymond Zeng says he is aiming to retire around age 30 while living minimally in the San Francisco Bay Area on $306,500 in annual compensation.
Zeng keeps spending low by renting a one-bedroom apartment for $2,600, skipping a car, couch and TV, and limiting transport and food costs to roughly $30 and $375 a month.
That setup lets him save $5,000 to $20,000 a month, with bonuses and stock options making up about 60% of pay and retirement accounts plus a brokerage account absorbing most of the surplus.
His projections show more than $2 million invested by age 30 and over $7 million by 40, though he says those targets depend on market performance and changing life circumstances.
