One Face ID component — the flood illuminator — is now rumored to move under the display on iPhone 18 Pro models, replacing earlier expectations of fully hidden Face ID.
That shift would leave a smaller Dynamic Island rather than only a visible front camera, with Apple still expected to keep 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch Pro display sizes.
Other rumored upgrades include an A20 Pro chip built on TSMC's 2nm process, LTPO+ displays for better battery life, and a variable-aperture 48-megapixel main camera.
Connectivity changes could include Apple's C2 modem, 5G via satellite, and an N2 wireless chip, while Apple is also said to be simplifying the Camera Control button.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September, alongside a foldable iPhone, with other iPhone 18 models likely following next year.
