MRC said ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude downplayed or omitted Fox News Digital’s reporting on Maine Democrat Graham Platner’s explicit Reddit posts when asked for his latest major developments.
Gemini and ChatGPT highlighted Platner’s polling, endorsements and rise as presumptive nominee, while Claude cited older controversy and a TIME profile rather than the newer allegations; MRC said Grok did credit the Fox report.
Google said Gemini is designed to provide neutral answers, while OpenAI and Anthropic did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital requests for comment.
57% of teenagers use AI chatbots to find information, according to Pew, which also said inaccurate answers are fairly common and about half of adults getting news from chatbots encounter inaccuracies at least sometimes.
The dispute adds to a broader fight over whether AI models are being shaped by left-leaning media sources and political values as they become a bigger gateway to news.
